Performances 28 September-3 October 2026 in the Auditorium
I’m excited to announce auditions for X, a bold and atmospheric play by Alistair McDowall.
This production will be actor-led at its core. I’m particularly interested in working collaboratively with the cast to build the relationships that drive the piece. We’ll be developing authentic, dynamic connections that feel lived-in and immediate on stage. Rehearsals will be a space for exploration, where actors are encouraged to bring ideas, instincts, and creativity into the room.
X is a play that thrives on tension, rhythm, and the interplay between characters. As such, we’ll be focusing not just on individual performances, but on how the ensemble functions as a whole, how relationships shift, fracture, and intensify over time.
Content Note:
This production contains references to suicide and explores themes that some may find distressing. Please consider this before auditioning, and feel free to reach out to Nicole with any questions.
Characters:
● Ray – A natural leader; practical and grounded, taking responsibility by default. Holds things together—but the pressure is beginning to show.
● Clark – Brash and dominant without being a true leader. Uses humour and energy to command space, but often feels misunderstood or sidelined.
● Mattie – Open, empathetic, and emotionally intelligent. Seeks connection and harmony, but may avoid confrontation when it matters most.
● Gilda – Sharp, questioning, and intellectually restless. Challenges authority and logic alike, pushing against easy answers.
● Cole – Quiet and watchful; sits on the edge of the group. Observes more than he speaks, but there’s a sense he sees more than he lets on.
● Girl – Small and childlike. A physical, non-verbal role focused on movement and presence. Exists slightly outside the group’s reality and does not directly interact with others until the end.
Ages ranges for each of these characters is deliberately ambiguous. We have a really exciting opportunity to decide these dynamics based on your auditions rather than pre-existing rules within the text.
