For patrons visiting the theatre between 16 and 21 November 2015, we have the work of Eirian Bell on display in the studio.
Eirian Bell is a native of North Wales and studied Fine Art at Wrexham and Manchester. After graduation, Eirian launched her teaching career here in Nottingham where, apart from a break or two, has happily remained.
Soon after retirement Eirian had the good fortune to share a large studio with three other artists. This was a particularly productive period, enabling much experimentation and work on a large scale. Sadly, this building was eventually sold, but despite the loss of this studio, the fellowship remains.
As a painter, the city of Nottingham has inspired Eirian with its diversity of culture and opportunity. Now in retirement 'getting on' with her own work is a central focus. In this respect, her membership at the Nottingham Society of Artists has been extremely valuable. There are numerous groups of artists, many who work directly from the model, with styles ranging from the traditional to the more exciting experimentation. Excellent gallery space is also available; and very much in demand.
Having worked across a range of media Eirian now uses mainly Acrylics, which suit her direct approach when painting from figurative sources. Eirian likes to interpret freely, allowing for surprise and innovation in the 'making process.' The Welsh landscape is also an abiding theme, as is the urban imagery of the people and places around her.
