For patrons visiting the theatre between 18 and 23 January 2016, we have the work of Joan McFadyen, on display in the studio.
I have always enjoyed painting both the natural world and still life subjects. Using a variety of media my work wanders between reality and abstraction, exploring surface decoration and pattern. I am inspired by the world around me and love painting beautiful things. I have worked in art education all my adult life becoming Head of Art at a Nottinghamshire comprehensive school until my retirement. I have also worked in adult art education.
I have exhibited regularly since 1974 in various galleries around Nottingham including the Castle museum, Thoresby, Patchings, several libraries and the Djanogoly gallery at the University. I have worked as a freelance silverware and jewellery designer, have illustrated two books and have won several national silver design competitions. I am a design contributor to the National Silverware Collection currently in use at no. 10 Downing Street. I am married and have two wonderful sons.
